Do you receive any money for the designing and listing in the directory?

Nope, nada, zero. It is a free “service” for websites we like, just as bloggers write post about services they recommend because they find them useful.

Besides you as curators/editors, it is possible for me to upload a website to the directory?

In the early version, way back to 2006, we allowed it. About a third of the sites listed then were uploaded by website´s owners, but quite frankly most of the designs sucked, looked like ads or the sites uploaded were not always relevant.

From that experience we decided to become the only content curators and creators, allowing us to keep the same design standards and deciding what´s worth sharing.

Anyway, you can recommend URLs from websites you like (at the left top of every page). We will check them out and, if relevant enough, design a “Monkey” and add it to the directory.

Are you planning to list sites beyond English speaking countries?

Totally. As soon as we get some user validation from other countries we will consider adding more editors to start curating websites in foreign languages.

Why taking the time to create a directory designing banners (Monkeys) for free for strangers?

What inspires us is the idea of discovering great apps, services or blogs and sharing them -visually- with thousands of Internet users that may not have heard about them.

We see Yellow as a giant visual wall that will help people find easily the best the web has to offer. Every *Monkey* we create represents the value we found in those amazing websites.

With so many bookmarking services out there, why I would use Yellow?

We started Yellow with the main purpose of sharing our findings in a visual manner.

If we helped you discover new sites visually, it makes sense it would be easier for you to recognize them later from your bookmarks.

We have found ourselves using our closed Beta way more frequently than Delicious (to name a bookmarking service). When it comes to find websites we had bookmark, seeing and recognizing our own banners have proved to be more intuitive. It has worked for us, maybe it could make your life a little easier too.

What´s your story, who are you?

In my mid thirties, I quitted  about a year ago from a position as digital marketing director in PHD (part of the Omnicom Media Group) to focus on developing and launching Yellow, my first try at creating a startup (more on my About.me profile).

Bootstrapped from the beginning, Yellow´s operations are based on coffee shops with free wifi, mainly from this one near home.

How are you planning to make money?

We are here for the long haul. We have clear ideas about how to make a living from Yellow but for now we´re just happy discovering, designing and sharing amazing websites. In the near future, as soon as we release more advanced features, we will be announcing how Yellow will effectively add more value to the sites listed in our directory.

I´m the owner of one of the sites listed. Now what?

a. You may not want it listed here

No problem. It was added because we found it relevant but it´s your rightful prerogative to ask it out from the directory. Just contact us and we will delete it right away.

b. You are happy to have your site listed

Cool! In the future you will be able to validate your site´s ownership to manage the info displayed on your Monkey profile and more.

c. You are happy to have your site listed, but the banner design (monkey, remember?) isn´t accurately showing your actual branding.

Consider that there will be sites we found, designed a banner to and listed months or years way back. And being designed using the branding we found at that moment, sometimes your site´s image may have changed. Just let us know and we´ll gladly replace it with an updated design.

How many new sites are listed daily?

We´ll be adding at least 20 new sites per weekday. That´s a total of 400 new, fresh websites every month. In fact, we could be adding up to 40 new recommended sites daily, but we´ll keep it small at the beginning.

Are you planning to add more features to Yellow?

At this stage we´ll be focused on validating the service as it is. If users like it and numbers grow, we have many ideas to improve your experience.
